This project will involve interior and exterior updates for the Voyager trains, with the work set to be carried out at Alstom's Derby Litchurch Lane facility.

Alstom has been awarded a contract to refurbish CrossCountry’s Voyager fleet in a €70 million agreement.

The refurbishment will cover a total of 312 cars, including both Voyager (Class 220) and Super Voyager (Class 221) models. The fleet will see the installation of new seats, tables, and flooring, alongside enhancements such as improved lighting and a passenger counting system. The exterior of the trains will be repainted in CrossCountry’s new livery. The project also aligns with sustainability efforts, with the new seats being designed to be at least 95% recyclable.

This contract includes an expansion of CrossCountry's current fleet with an additional 60 carriages, which will be integrated following their release from Avanti West Coast. The refurbishment work is scheduled to begin next year and continue until 2027, employing around 100 Alstom staff and supported by UK-based suppliers.

This agreement is part of a broader collaboration between Alstom and CrossCountry, building on an existing Train Services Agreement that was extended last year. The extended agreement, valued at €950 million, ensures the continued maintenance and servicing of the Voyager fleet until 2031.

Alstom's involvement with the UK rail network remains extensive, with ongoing projects such as the production of new Aventra trains for the Elizabeth line, also being built at the Derby facility. The Voyager and Super Voyager trains have been in service for over two decades, accumulating over 427 million miles across the UK rail network.
