The first six out of 30 refurbished double-deck wagons were handed over to Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) for operation on the standard gauge railway (SGR).

On 9.6.2023, TRC took over the first six double-deck coaches (former DB-Dosto DBz 751 / DABz756) sent from the German port of Mukran at the end of April. Before they were transferred, they were modernised by Lückemeier Transport & Logistik GmbH in Germany. Four of them are second, and two of them are first class. Thirty more passenger wagons will be sent to Dar es Salaam for the SGR project operations.

The Tanzania government is purchasing additional rolling stock too. Fourteen out of 60 new coaches from South Korea, made by Sung Shin Rolling Stock (SSRT), were already delivered too. Additional locomotives and wagons will be bought for the SGR operations.

TRC has purchased four former Class 1014 Austrian locomotives for the operation via Turkish company Yapi Merkezi. These locomotives will be coupled with the newly-arrived double-deck coaches before being replaced by new locomotives. These were contracted from Hyundai Rotem, which will deliver 17 locomotives and 10 eight-car EMUs for the SGR project. Another large contract for rolling stock is the delivery of 1430 freight wagons awarded to Chinese CRRC.

The SGR is a railway project starting in Dar es Salaam with the intention of a cross-country standard-gauge railway connection to Mwanza (1,637 km), continuing to Rwanda and Burundi and consequently to DRC. The first stage is in the final construction phase, connecting the five million capital of Tanzania with Morogoro. The electrified line is designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.
