STA – Südtiroler Transportstrukturen AG has put the first Alstom Coradia Stream EMU into regular passenger service on the Vinschger Bahn in South Tyrol.

The Coradia Stream is being introduced for operations on the Vinschger Bahn, which links Merano with Mals in the Vinschgau valley. The first regular service follows planning and preparation work connected with the conversion of the route for electric operation.

According to STA, the new trains have 381 seats and a power output of around 3,000 kW. They are designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h and are equipped for multi-system operation.

The fleet is intended to support the further development of regional rail services in Vinschgau and on other parts of the South Tyrol network.
