Västtrafik, Hallandstrafiken and Jönköpings Länstrafik have awarded SJ an 11-year contract to continue operating the Västtågen regional train system from 12 December 2027.
SJ will deliver the services through its subsidiary SJ Götalandståg, which has operated Västtågen since 2012. The company previously won the “Tåg 2015” contract (9+3 years) and the “Tåg 2016” contract covering Kinnekulletågen (8+3 years), both managed as a single business within SJ Götalandståg.
Under Tåg 2027, Västtågen and Kinnekulletågen are formally merged into one agreement. The contract covers regional services on behalf of the three public transport authorities in western Sweden.
Alstom will act as SJ’s vehicle maintenance partner under the new contract.
The award decision is subject to a 10-day standstill period during which it may be appealed.
