The Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) will include the requirement in upcoming tenders, replacing the varied operator liveries currently found across the region.
The first trains with the new look are planned for the Munich S-Bahn from late 2028. Additional fleets, including those for services between Aschaffenburg and Berchtesgaden, are scheduled to follow at the start of the next decade. Existing rolling stock will remain unchanged.
The design, created by BEG together with the Neomind studio, builds on the appearance introduced for Munich’s XXL S-Bahn presented at InnoTrans. White and “Bahnland Bayern” blue dominate the exterior, with a diamond pattern referencing the state flag. S-Bahn trains will feature a large “S” symbol, while operators will continue to display their logos to maintain clarity over service responsibility.
The concept combines paint and foil elements to form the geometric pattern and functional markings. These surfaces can be renewed individually when needed. A contrasting colour layout aims to simplify wayfinding: dark doors against a light body, blue markings for multi-purpose spaces such as bicycle and wheelchair areas, and a yellow stripe to indicate first-class sections.
The design forms part of Bavaria’s broader effort to standardise passenger-facing elements across the regional rail system, including ticket machines and service points.
