The Occitanie Region reopened the Montréjeau-Luchon rail line to passenger traffic on 22 June 2025, following a ten-year suspension of service. The 36-kilometer line connecting Montréjeau to Luchon had been out of operation since 2014, following severe flood damage.
Restoration and modernization work cost the region approximately EUR 67 million. The investment covered comprehensive infrastructure rehabilitation, four station refurbishments at Loures-Barbazan, Saléchan-Siradan, Marignac-Saint-Béat, and Bagnères-de-Luchon, improvements to several level crossings, signalling systems, telecommunication upgrades, and structural reinforcements along the route.
Train operations restarted with six daily round trips between Montréjeau and Luchon, cutting travel time from 55 minutes by bus to 35 minutes by rail. The service provides passengers with connections at Montréjeau for travel toward Toulouse and Pau, enhancing transport accessibility for residents, students, and healthcare facility users.
Bagnères-de-Luchon railway station, originally built in 1873 and classified as a historic monument, underwent renovations totalling approximately 235 square meters, including façade restoration and canopy refurbishments.
