The continued operation aligns with the priorities of King Charles III, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental considerations in future rail travel.

DB Cargo UK has been granted a new warrant by His Majesty King Charles III to continue the operation and maintenance of the Royal Train. The company has held the royal warrant since the privatisation of the railway sector, maintaining its role in providing rail transport for senior members of the Royal Family for over three decades.

As part of the transition, updates will be made to the Royal Train’s locomotives to reflect the new reign. Locomotive 67005, currently named Queen’s Messenger, will be renamed King’s Messenger, while 67006 Royal Sovereign will receive a new Royal Cypher while keeping its existing name.

The Royal Train, which operates on the UK’s mainline network, remains a dedicated transport service for the Royal Household.
