As Paris gears up for the 2024 Summer Olympics, SNCF is executing a detailed and extensive plan to ensure seamless transportation and exceptional service for the influx of visitors.
Better Transport Services
SNCF is significantly boosting its transport services to manage the expected 500,000 daily spectators. In collaboration with Île-de-France Mobilités, the company will operate 4,500 additional trains on top of the usual summer schedule. This increase includes services like Transilien, TGV INOUI, OUIGO, and TER to facilitate travel to and from competition sites and host cities across France.
For the regions, 370 extra trains will run during the Olympics, connecting key cities like Lyon, Marseille, and Nice to Paris. Adjustments have been made to TGV and INTERCITÉS schedules to accommodate the surge in travel, particularly focusing on major events and competition timings.
Infrastructure and Accessibility Enhancements
SNCF Réseau is preparing the rail infrastructure to support maximum train circulation under optimal and secure conditions. This includes advanced planning and acceleration of maintenance and renovation works, ensuring the rail network can handle the increased load.
Accessibility improvements are a major focus, with 100% of the stations serving the Olympic sites being fully accessible for people with disabilities. This includes enhanced signage, audio announcements in multiple languages, and the deployment of mobile applications to assist travelers. Special measures, such as the Assist’en Gare platform and the Acceo service, have been put in place to aid passengers with reduced mobility.
Operational Readiness and Security Measures
To manage the increased passenger flow, SNCF Gares & Connexions is implementing advanced security and crowd management protocols at major stations. Over 50,000 SNCF agents, including 5,000 dedicated to station assistance, will be mobilized. These agents will provide information, guide travelers, and ensure smooth operations.
A dedicated command center, PC "Paris 2024," will be operational from July 19 to September 9, 2024, overseeing train operations and passenger flows. Additionally, safety measures include the deployment of 73 canine units and the establishment of safe zones in six major stations.
Environmental and Social Commitments
SNCF is emphasizing sustainability throughout its operations for the Olympics. The company is reusing concrete sleepers for temporary installations, reducing CO2 emissions, and implementing extensive waste sorting and recycling programs. More than 2,150 recycling bins and 70 water fountains are being installed in stations to promote eco-friendly practices among travelers.
The company also focuses on social inclusion, supporting various initiatives to help people facing social and professional challenges through sports. SNCF’s Foundation has contributed to programs aimed at integrating young people and long-term unemployed individuals into the workforce via sports activities.

SNCF is enhancing the traveler experience with special services such as temporary luggage storage and new conciergeries at key stations. Cultural initiatives include art installations and performances in stations, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the event.
