The procurement process of the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which aligns with the Buy America Act, includes a comprehensive contract covering the supply and maintenance of trainsets, a driving simulator, and other related services.
Further details reveal that the contract will be partially funded by the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program grant, received in December 2023. The scope of the contract encompasses various aspects, including the design, manufacturing, storage, integration, testing, and commissioning of the trainsets. Additionally, it involves a 30-year maintenance commitment for each trainset, provision of spares, and operational responsibilities for certain maintenance facilities.
The project aims to extend the existing 191 km under construction to a total of 275 km of electrified high-speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield.
In total, more than 25 active construction sites are operational across California's Central Valley. The High-Speed Rail Authority has also completed environmental clearances for 680 km of the rail program, stretching from the Bay Area to the Los Angeles Basin.
