With the assistance of the Office of the Director for Economic and Information Security of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, the SBU arrested a Russian agent who was planning to blow up a railway in the Dnipropetrovs'k region in order to disrupt the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He was an employee of a local Ukrzaliznytsia station.
According to the SBU, the man was recruited by a Russian military intelligence officer earlier this year. The traitor collected information on the routes and unloading points of foreign military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces involved in the counter-offensive operations of Ukrainian troops.
The enemy agent recorded the coordinates of railway stations and bridges and filmed the objects in detail with his own mobile phone camera in order to fulfil the tasks of the aggressor. The occupiers needed this information to carry out air strikes in the region.
The Russian invaders also considered the option of sabotaging Ukrzaliznytsia's facilities with the help of a recruited agent.
The criminals were discovered in time. During the search of the suspect's house, the SBU found F-1 and RGD-5 grenades, a carbine, a large number of small arms ammunition and smoke bombs.
The operation was conducted by the SBU's Dnipro Region office with the assistance of the Office of the Director for Economic and Information Security of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC and under the procedural direction of the Dnipro Region Prosecutor's Office.
