Brabrand is the third new workshop DSB has built for its shift from diesel to electric operation.

DSB has completed a new maintenance workshop in Brabrand near Aarhus for its future Alstom Coradia Stream electric multiple units. The Danish operator will use the fleet under the IC5 name in national service.

The Aarhus Workshop Area was inaugurated on 17 June 2026 and represents an investment of EUR 311m (DKK 2.32bn). Alstom will take over the facility in the coming months and will maintain the new fleet at the site.

The workshop hall covers almost 20,000 m² and has eight covered tracks, including three lifting tracks. The facility has capacity for more than 80 trainsets.

The full site covers 30 hectares at Rosbjergvej 100 in Brabrand. It includes around 9 km of tracks for stabling, cleaning, preparation and servicing.

MT Højgaard Danmark built the facility as general contractor. The site includes solar panels, battery storage and DGNB Platinum pre-certification for sustainable construction.

DSB expects the solar panels to supply around 60% of the workshop’s annual electricity demand. Surplus power can be stored in battery systems.
