China Railways introduces 50-foot containers into service

The new container size is the biggest in China, and the 50-foot containers have a volume capacity of 50% more than the standard 40-foot containers.


China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway) has implemented its new self-developed product on Chinese railways – the 50-foot container. These containers weigh 36 tonnes, and their loading capacity is 30.85 tonnes. With a volume of 114.4 m3, these are the biggest containers on Chinese rails, exceeding the volume of 40-foot standard containers by fifty per cent.

China Railway (CR) has simultaneously implemented these containers in several stations such as Guangzhou International Port Station, Minhang Railway Station in Shanghai, Changshabei Railway Station, and Wangjiayingxi Railway Station in Kunming
