The Małaszewicze station has been extended by three additional tracks as part of a €28 million project to design and extend tracks in the area of the Biała Podlaska and Małaszewicze stations on the Warsaw-Terespol line. The investment will increase the accessibility and capacity of the stations for freight transport.

Three additional tracks will be built at Małaszewicze station between Biała Podlaska and Terespol. The new tracks increase the capacity of the station, allowing more freight to be transported, thereby increasing the railway's competitiveness in cross-border freight transport on the strategic east-west route.

"Thanks to the investments made by PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe S.A. in the Małaszewicze and Biała Podlaska stations, there will be better opportunities for transporting goods across the Polish border," said Andrzej Bittel, State Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Government Plenipotentiary for Counteracting Communication Exclusion.

"The infrastructure manager is constantly modernising the railway to improve freight transport. Ongoing investments allow more trains to pass, which means better opportunities for trade," said Ireneusz Merchel, President of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe S.A.

In addition to the tracks at Małaszewicze, the Biała Podlaska station will be extended by ten tracks. In total, several kilometres of track will be built. The Biała Podlaska station will be able to handle more freight trains with a length of 750 metres. The scope of work also includes the construction of a catenary system, points and the installation of new signalling equipment. Drainage work will be carried out, which is essential for optimum track maintenance. The works will be financed from public funds earmarked for the recapitalisation of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe as part of the National Railway Programme. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
