In the first half of 2023, CRE recorded 8,641 trains on the New Silk Road, which is a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The number of TEUs increased even more, with 936,000 containers representing a 30% YoY increase.
CRE also reports better return trips ratio, increased variety of goods and development of cold chain services. A new container terminal was built at the Alataw Pass with a border of Kazakhstan; more trains were transported on the China – Laos Railway and a heavy focus is on establishing the new international land-sea corridor trains.
CRE is part of China's bigger and more ambitious Belt and Road Initiative to create various interconnected routes for transporting goods from what is today the “factory of the world” to the markets that can be reached other than by traditional naval routes to major seaports.
