NIAG Logistics has resumed rail transport of raw materials to power plant sites operated by the Steag Iqony Group in Saarland and the Rhine–Ruhr region from the beginning of 2026.
The first block train under the renewed arrangement was loaded and dispatched in early January from the Rietlanden BV terminal in the port of Amsterdam. The service marks the start of a long-term transport flow between North Sea ports and Steag Iqony’s power plant locations.
According to NIAG Logistics, the initial train reached its destination in Saarland on schedule despite adverse weather conditions at the start of the year. The operation involves coordination between the port terminal, NIAG’s rail subsidiary and other logistics partners along the corridor.
Steag Iqony operates several conventional power generation assets in western and south-western Germany, which rely on regular deliveries of solid raw materials via rail-based port–hinterland logistics chains.
