Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) is pushing forward its tank container operations for loose cement by launching services for two different customers: Adani Cement and MP Birla Group.

On 24 October 2025, CONCOR signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Adani Cement in New Delhi. The agreements aim to shift cement transport from road to rail using dedicated container rakes equipped with specialised tank containers. These rakes will operate on selected corridors, supported by the terminal networks of both companies.

CONCOR has also dispatched the first rake of loose cement from RCCPL’s Mukutban plant (part of the MP Birla Group) to its terminal in Turbhe, Mumbai. The train was loaded with cement in CONCOR’s newly introduced tank containers. The service was coordinated with the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division and local plant management.

The two developments indicate CONCOR’s intent to expand its role in bulk commodity transport using containerisation. While cement has traditionally moved in bulk by road or in open wagons by rail, the use of tank containers introduces a different model based on closed-loop, containerised logistics. CONCOR is responsible for the rake operations, while loading and unloading infrastructure remains with the respective plants and terminals.
