ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has expanded its operational footprint in Western Europe. After obtaining the Single Safety Certificate from the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) for the Netherlands, Belgium, and the German border area, the company successfully operated its first freight train in Belgium under its own licence and traction. The train departed from Roosendaal in the Netherlands and reached the port of Zeebrugge on 14 October.
The new certification enables RCG to run trains independently on the Belgian railway network, confirming compliance with all legal and operational safety requirements. This step allows the company to offer more flexible and efficient services in both international and regional freight transport, integrating Belgium into RCG’s wider production network.
Following its entry into the Dutch market in 2024, RCG is now strengthening its position in Western Europe. With direct access to the ports of Zeebrugge and Antwerp, the company is expanding its TransFER connections and sustainable logistics solutions across the Benelux region. To support the new operations, RCG is also seeking to hire train drivers and team leaders for its growing team in Antwerp.
