PKP CARGO has deployed a 42-wagon Eamnos train for use in the construction materials segment. The four-axle Eamnos wagons are designed for transporting bulk materials that are not moisture-sensitive, including gravel, stone, sand, coal, iron ore, and steel. Unlike the more commonly used EAS coal wagons, the Eamnos model features a shorter body and lighter construction. This design allows for higher payload capacity and fewer loading cycles. According to operational data, this could enable two-shift operations instead of three, reducing turnaround time.
Currently, PKP CARGO uses a range of rolling stock for bulk transport, including Eas, Fals, and Szutrówka 203V wagons. The Eamnos variant adds to the company’s existing fleet of self-unloading and open-top wagons used in the construction and infrastructure supply chain.
The company reports that the wagons have a low failure rate and do not lead to material losses in transit, which is relevant in transporting aggregates used in concrete production.
The wagon acquisition aligns with broader restructuring steps undertaken by PKP CARGO. In July 2025, the company accounted for 26.7% of transported volume in the Polish rail freight market, up from 25.3% in June. The Office of Rail Transport recorded a total volume of 18.8 million tonnes moved in July, the highest monthly result this year.
PKP CARGO is currently undergoing a restructuring process, which includes adjustments to its rolling stock composition and the development of its freight offer beyond coal. The company is seeking to rebalance its portfolio with an increased focus on intermodal and specialised transport segments.
