PKP Cargo Connect GmbH, the German branch of PKP Cargo Group operating as its business development entity in Germany, has resumed rail freight services focused on grain commodities within the German market. A recent example involves the transport of rapeseed meal from Poland to the AGRO terminal in Drentwede.
The delivery required the use of self-unloading Talns wagons, paired with a heavy electric locomotive. The gross train weight exceeded 2,900 tonnes. The journey proceeded via Frankfurt (Oder), a key rail border crossing. Unloading at the destination—Drentwede AGRO terminal—was completed in under eight hours for a 40-wagon train.
Drentwede AGRO terminal is positioned as one of the most modern bulk goods transshipment facilities in Europe. Its infrastructure allows for handling high-capacity bulk trains within a limited timeframe, which is a critical factor in bulk logistics operations for agricultural commodities.
Between 2022 and 2024, PKP Cargo Connect GmbH was involved in regular grain shipments from Ukraine to various terminals in Hamburg. These included facilities operated by HaBeMa, Silo P. Kruse, and ADM. The services offered a logistics alternative during a period of pressure on Ukraine’s grain export capacity due to disrupted transport corridors.
The current transport of rapeseed meal from Poland is one of the latest bulk cargo flows managed by the company within the German network, indicating a continued focus on cross-border agricultural freight and utilisation of high-capacity unloading infrastructure.
