The dangerous-looking accident happened on 12 March in the morning at a level crossing in Poland town Częstochowa.
According to the preliminary findings of the police, the driver of a Volkswagen had ignored a red light and crashed into an oncoming freight train heading towards Stradom station. The force of the impact was so great that the car was severely damaged and the driver had to be transported to hospital.
Fortunately, no one else was injured in the accident, but the incident had an impact on rail traffic. Train traffic on this section was suspended for two hours. Koleje Śląskie (the Silesian Railways) organised a replacement bus service, and long-distance trains were diverted via Częstochowa, Zawiercie and Tarnowskie Góry.
