The C30ACi locomotives, equipped with AC-traction technology, represent a shift for TRANSAP, being the first AC-traction units in the company’s fleet.

TRANSAP, a rail-based logistics company in Chile, has ordered four C30ACi locomotives from Wabtec Corporation as part of its fleet renewal program. The locomotives will be utilized to fulfill a long-term contract with ARAUCO, a major forestry company, transporting freight across Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE)’s rail network.

Designed for heavy-haul operations, the C30ACi model is built to address operational requirements on challenging rail networks, including the ability to navigate sharp curves and tight clearances often encountered on EFE’s infrastructure.

With features such as individual axle traction control and higher hauling capacity, these locomotives are designed to optimize freight transport operations, potentially reducing the need for additional units. Wabtec has stated that the locomotives aim to provide lower operational costs and improved reliability to meet operational demands effectively.

The new locomotives are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will play a key role in TRANSAP’s logistics services for ARAUCO, which include transporting goods to various markets across Chile.
