The decrease in energy consumption is up to 40%.

Bring Intermodal, a transportation company operating both within Sweden and internationally towards Norway, has implemented a new locomotive solution for their rail service between Torsvik in Jönköping and Oslo. The company recently transitioned to using Alstom Traxx AC3 locomotives provided by CargoNet. This locomotive has a reduced energy consumption, using 40 percent less energy compared to previous models.

The introduction of the Traxx AC3 locomotive has led to a reduction in annual energy consumption by approximately three gigawatt hours. This change contributes to a lesser environmental impact of the rail service. Each train is 600-meter long and can accommodate up to 34 trailers. The total capacity for this train is 1,300 tons.

Once in Oslo, the trailers are transferred to electric trucks for further distribution across Norway. This operation not only conserves energy but also helps in reducing the load on the road network by offsetting around 10,000 trailers annually that would otherwise travel by road between Småland and Oslo.

The rail service enhancement involves advanced technology that allows for energy to be recaptured and fed back into the grid during braking processes, promoting efficiency throughout the operation.
