The Multimodal Transport and Transit Forum 2024, held last week in Tbilisi, Georgia, brought together over 170 delegates from 20 countries to discuss the future of multimodal transport. Organised by the RDL Group under the leadership of CEO Roman Dedkov, the Forum provided a platform to examine the evolving landscape of transport logistics in Europe and Asia, with a particular focus on the significant role of the Black Sea region as a transit hub.

Roman Dedkov opened the event by emphasising the importance of innovative and sustainable transport solutions. The conference saw a rich exchange of ideas, including discussions led by Kanat Kobessov on Eurasian infrastructure trends and Liliana Krutonog on the role of European carriers in the development of the TMTM corridor.

Much attention was paid to the freight transport sector, in particular the potential of the Black Sea to strengthen multimodal links. George Doborjginidze and UIRR President Ralf-Charley Schultze spoke about major infrastructure projects and improvements in combined transport respectively. The growth of international operations and the shift towards more sustainable and diversified freight options were recurring themes.

Notably, the Forum witnessed the signing of several Memoranda of Cooperation, signalling a commitment to future cooperation and development. Companies such as NUR ZHOL COMPANY, MALBI-trans, Camco Technologies, Concept Logistics and Grampet Group were among the signatories, underlining a collective drive to improve the efficiency and reach of the transport network.

The forum concluded with discussions on the development of seaports, with an emphasis on becoming "greener" and "smarter", with insights from leaders such as Mario Escobar of APM Terminals Poti and Dan Jarnea of the Port of Constanta, who highlighted the strategic importance of their locations in facilitating the movement of goods across the Black Sea.

Overall, the Multimodal Transport and Transit Forum 2024 marked a significant step forward in fostering the dialogue and partnerships that will shape the future of transport in the region.
