In a significant development for European logistics, LKW WALTER, in collaboration with CFL multimodal, has inaugurated a new intermodal rail service that connects Bettembourg-Dudelange in Luxembourg with the Port of Lübeck in Germany. This service, initiated to strengthen the North-South transport axis, promises to streamline the flow of goods between Scandinavia and key economic centers across Europe.
“This new route represents an important step in expanding our combined transport network”, emphasizes Günther Wiesinger, Senior Management Director at LKW WALTER, and added, “This route efficiently connects Scandinavia and France but also extends our combined transport services to Spain via the train Bettembourg - Le Boulou.”
The new service, which will operate three times a week, is the result of a decade-long partnership between LKW WALTER and CFL multimodal, both leaders in the logistics sector. The service is strategically designed to meet the growing demand for efficient and sustainable transport solutions, facilitating access to Sweden, Finland, and beyond.
Managed by CFL cargo, the initiative is not only a logistical achievement but also a significant step towards environmental sustainability. The introduction of this intermodal link will strengthen the combined transport network across Europe, providing a reliable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional road transport. It reflects the wider industry trend towards multimodal transport solutions that utilize the strengths of both rail and road logistics to reduce road congestion, lower environmental impact, and increase the efficiency of cross-border trade.
