Direct Rail Services (DRS) will add a fleet of 25 new JNA-Z box wagons to its operations in February. These wagons are leased from VTG Rail UK and are currently under construction at WH Davis's Shirebrook facility. The delivery schedule includes the first 16 wagons arriving at the start of February, followed by the remaining nine towards the end of the month.
The wagons will form a set for transporting spoil. WH Davis, noted as the last freight wagon manufacturer in the UK, is responsible for completing the construction of these wagons. Each wagon has a gross laden weight of 101.6 tonnes and a tare weight of 24.2 tonnes, which allows for a payload capacity of 77.4 tonnes.
With this addition, the number of wagons leased by DRS from VTG Rail UK will increase from 115 to 140. This expansion adds to DRS's existing wagon portfolio, which previously focused on intermodal wagons. The lease agreement for these new wagons includes maintenance, a service provided by VTG Rail UK, classified as a wet lease.
