The Polish branch of Genesee & Wyoming company, Freightliner PL, is growing in its mostly bulk haulage business, and the need for tractive force is a natural result of that. The company does all it can to keep being “the strongest” as the claim says. Its fleet expansion is remarkable in both electric and independent traction.
In electric locomotives, it has recently leased multisystem Vectron locomotives made by Siemens Mobility and leased from Cargounit. Locomotives 193 061 (Dawid), 193 062 (Radek) and most recently 193 236 (Karolina) have joined the fleet of Freightliner PL for domestic services as well as trains operating in Germany.
But the need for a fleet is bigger than that. That is why, in cooperation with Freightliner UK, five Class 66 locomotives will be relocated from the UK to Poland. The first one, 66526, has already been transferred to help haul trains with grain, coal and steel for Freightliner PL.
