The support agreement runs until March 2036, with an option to extend to March 2042.

Alstom has signed a 10-year Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement with ScotRail and a separate refurbishment contract with rolling stock owner Beacon Rail covering Class 222 diesel multiple units (DMUs) that will operate in Scotland.

The contract with ScotRail covers technical support and spares supply for 22 five-car Class 222 DMUs entering service with the Scottish operator. Initial maintenance and support activities will be delivered from Polmadie, Haymarket and Inverness depots, including provision of technicians, supply chain and spares management, specialist tooling and data hosting.

In parallel, Alstom will carry out a fleet refurbishment programme under its agreement with Beacon Rail. The scope includes interior and exterior upgrades, driver cab improvements and reconfiguration to increase luggage, bicycle and accessibility space.

Onboard systems will be upgraded with new passenger information systems, saloon media screens, hearing aid-compatible announcement systems, automatic passenger counting, CCTV, Wi-Fi and enhanced cybersecurity measures. Intelligent stop/start technology and defibrillators will also be installed across the fleet.

The combined contracts are valued at £330m (€380m) and will be booked in the fourth quarter of Alstom’s 2025/26 financial year.
