The first of 16 new electric trains built by Škoda Group will enter passenger service in Estonia.

The Estonian operator Elron is introducing the vehicles as part of a fleet renewal and expansion programme. The first electric multiple unit is expected to begin operations on 15 December 2025.

The contract between Škoda Group and Elron includes 16 trains, with a total value of approximately EUR 150 million. The delivery is split between 11 long-distance and five suburban configurations. All vehicles are dual-system, compatible with both 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC infrastructure.

Elron plans to use the new trains across its electrified routes, which are currently undergoing further expansion. The new trains are intended to increase capacity and support changes in travel demand, particularly on lines such as Tallinn–Tartu.

The delivered vehicles are from Škoda’s RegioPanter platform, which is already in service in countries including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Latvia. Estonia becomes the latest country in the Baltic region to adopt this rolling stock platform.

All 16 trains are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
