New passenger railcars produced at the Stadler Kazakhstan facility in Astana for KTZ have completed over 10,000 kilometres of certification testing across multiple routes in Kazakhstan.
The programme covered performance parameters such as braking system reliability, running gear stability, and onboard safety systems.
The newly developed railcars feature compartment-specific climate control, power outlets with USB ports, call buttons for onboard staff, and tactile signage for passengers with disabilities. The design is tailored for use in extreme climatic conditions, with a service life projected at 40 years.
The first units are scheduled for delivery to the national carrier by the end of 2025. This batch will include standard compartments, reserved seating, cars for passengers with disabilities, and generator cars. Stadler will also provide maintenance for the vehicles over a 20-year period.
A total of 557 passenger cars are planned to enter service by 2030, replacing the existing fleet entirely. Starting in 2026, the new cars will operate on long-distance routes linking Astana with Almaty, Semey, Shymkent, and Atyrau.
