The Department for Transport has confirmed that Greater Anglia’s train services will be transferred to public ownership on 12 October 2025.

Greater Anglia currently operates rail services across the East Anglian region. The company has reported passenger demand of 82 million journeys during the 2024/2025 period. The operator has introduced a completely new fleet of trains as part of a reported €2.34 billion investment programme since 2012, based on the conversion rate of GBP to EUR as of May 2025.

The Department for Transport has stated that there will be no changes to existing train timetables, station facilities, ticket validity, or passenger rights during or after the transition. All staff currently employed by the company are expected to transfer into the new publicly owned structure under existing terms.

Since the start of its current contract in 2012, the operator has replaced its fleet with new rolling stock and has implemented measures targeting operational performance and the environmental footprint of its services.
