From February 8, direct train services will operate between Nova Gorica, Gorizia (I), and Venice (I) on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays in Italy.

The connections have been introduced as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025, a joint initiative between Nova Gorica and Gorizia, in cooperation with SŽ-Potniški promet (Slovenian Railways) and Trenitalia.

The service will consist of two train pairs running between Venezia Mestre, Gorizia Centrale, and Nova Gorica. These connections supplement existing rail services, which require transfers at Jesenice or Sežana. A direct train also runs between Ljubljana and Nova Gorica on weekends and holidays, with morning departures to Nova Gorica and afternoon returns to Ljubljana.

A new underpass, measuring approximately 57 meters in length and 10 meters in width, now connects Trg Evrope with Nova Gorica, providing access to the station from both sides.
