Scheduled for operation from mid-2026, the first finished unit made an appearance.

In July 2023, Austrian State Railways, Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB) order 35 new Stadler double-deck KISS trains from Swiss manufacturer, Stadler. Apart from 21 aimed at regional commuter services, the order also comprises 14 six-car electric multiple units for long-distance travel, designated as Railjets.

The first Railjet KISS made an appearance in early February 2025. These trains aim for a maximum speed of 200 km/h and should have first- and second-class compartments, and two catering zones. Each unit should take around 480 seated passengers, almost 20% more than the current push-pull single-deck trainsets currently in use.

Their delivery should be finished in late summer 2027 and we will be able to first see these units on the Wien – Linz – Salzburg line, later, once Semmering tunnel is finished, also on the Wien – Graz line.
