The project is part of Morocco's plan to develop its high-speed rail network, modernize its conventional lines, and prepare the country for the football World Cup in 2030.

The Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) has awarded a contract to the Franco-Moroccan consortium made up of Egis (leader), SYSTRA, and Novec to help manage the high-speed rail infrastructure between Kenitra and Marrakech.

With a view to hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2030, to be co-hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, Morocco is accelerating its high-speed network to Marrakech and plans to modernize its conventional network by launching an unprecedented investment program over the next seven years. ONCF has enlisted the support of Egis, SYSTRA, and Novec to carry out this program.

This investment, in line with the Rail Morocco 2040 plan, includes extending the existing high-speed line between Tangier and Kenitra to Marrakesh, creating a high-speed rail link between the capital Rabat and Casablanca, Marrakesh and Tangier.

The new infrastructure will make Morocco's rail network one of the most modern and efficient in the world, with trains traveling at 320 km/h on 430 km of new high-speed lines. The inauguration of the project will be at the end of 2029, before the start of the football World Cup.
