The facility is designed to accommodate the latest generation of Cityjet double-decker trains.

ÖBB Train Tech will build a new maintenance facility in Vienna Floridsdorf by 2026. The investment exceeds EUR 100 million, and is aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of the new, longer, Stadler KISS trainsets.

Located on a 40,000 square meter site of the former freight station in Floridsdorf, the construction of this maintenance hall is part of a broader upgrade program for the Vienna S-Bahn, titled "S-Bahn Wien Upgrade." This program seeks to prepare stations and railway infrastructure for the future demands of urban transit, including the deployment of these new double-decker trains in Vienna's eastern region starting in 2026.

The facility itself will cover 16,000 square meters and will feature eight tracks. Six of these tracks will be dedicated to maintenance, one to graffiti cleaning and quick repairs, and another will be used for transporting components and materials necessary for train services. Up to 50 workers per shift will staff the facility, ensuring the availability and reliability of the trains.

Special attention is being given to environmental sustainability in the construction of the hall. The design includes eco-friendly and recyclable building materials and energy-efficient construction methods. The building will be equipped with a 5,200 square meter photovoltaic array capable of generating the annual electricity needs of approximately 360 households. Additionally, the hall will feature extensive roof and facade greening, which serves both architectural and functional purposes by providing insulation and rainwater retention.

The project is also expected to boost the local job market with approximately 150 positions planned for the new facility. Furthermore, the site will include electric charging stations for service bicycles, electric forklifts, and service vehicles.

The new maintenance hall will start operations in early 2026, providing critical support for the Cityjet double-decker trains that will significantly increase passenger capacity and comfort on Vienna's key suburban railway lines.
