DB Cargo UK has signed a seven-year contract with automotive logistics provider CAT UK to transport finished Jaguar Land Rover vehicles from Halewood in Merseyside to the Port of Southampton.
The operator currently runs around three rail services per week between Halewood and Southampton, with volumes expected to increase as output rises. Rail transport on the corridor provides a lower-emission alternative to road haulage, supporting the automotive sector’s decarbonisation objectives while ensuring reliable export flows through the Port of Southampton.
Expanded relocation and storage services
Alongside the contract announcement, DB Cargo UK has highlighted its integrated service offering for rail operators, combining relocation, storage and maintenance solutions. The portfolio covers the movement of passenger and freight rolling stock, secure stabling, maintenance inspections and light servicing, as well as locomotive rental and overhaul of wagons and locomotives.
Recent operations included the transfer of vehicles from a London depot to a secure site in south-east England, where DB Cargo UK provided storage, maintenance and preparation for return to service. Additional capabilities include wheelset overhaul, repainting, pantograph maintenance, terminal and product management, breakdown assistance and towing services.
These combined logistics and technical services are designed to provide rail operators with flexible, end-to-end fleet management solutions across the UK network.
