The service uses CPKC’s single-line rail network and Americold’s temperature-controlled import-export hub co-located with CPKC’s intermodal terminal in Kansas City.
The Kansas City facility functions as a consolidation point for produce and protein shipments moving between the United States and Mexico. Temperature-controlled handling and storage are combined with on-site inspection services from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Mexico’s SENASICA authority.
By completing sanitary and phytosanitary inspections and certifications in Kansas City before departure to Mexico—and after arrival for U.S.-bound shipments—the partners aim to reduce border dwell times. Pre-clearance is designed to avoid inspection queues at the U.S.–Mexico border and streamline customs procedures.
CPKC provides direct cross-border rail service on its integrated Canada–U.S.–Mexico network. The companies state that reducing handling steps and avoiding truck border congestion supports transit time reliability and temperature integrity for refrigerated cargo moving along the corridor.
