Polish rail freight operator PKP Cargo has appointed Zbigniew Prus as its new Chief Executive Officer as part of its ongoing restructuring process.

His mandate begins on 2 February 2026, at a time when the operator is undergoing court-led restructuring aimed at restoring financial stability and operational efficiency.

Prus brings more than 30 years of experience in the Polish rail sector, having held senior management and operational roles within PKP and across the PKP Cargo group. His previous positions include operational directorates and executive posts focused on train operations, rolling stock management and performance optimisation. Most recently, he served as CEO of PKP Cargo Service and as operational representative of PKP Cargo during the restructuring process.

The company said Prus has been directly involved in previous restructuring and recovery programmes, including initiatives to improve train productivity, rolling stock utilisation and transport processes. His background also includes leadership roles at PKP Cargo International and responsibility for operational management within the group between 2017 and 2024.

PKP Cargo is Poland’s largest rail freight operator and one of the leading players in Central and Eastern Europe. The restructuring process is intended to address declining freight volumes and financial pressure across the market, with management focusing on operational efficiency, cost control and stabilisation of core transport activities.
