Direct Rail Services has started a third phase of rail-borne aggregate deliveries to the Repository site as part of the Southern Trench Interim Membrane (STIM) project.
The operator plans to run around 200 trains to the site by September 2026, transporting more than 175,000 tonnes of aggregate. The material is required for construction activities linked to the renewal of the liner system at the Repository.
Direct Rail Services is working with Nuclear Transport Solutions and supply chain partners GRAHAM Group, AECOM and SLR Consulting, which is providing construction quality assurance services. The companies are coordinating rail operations, construction activities and assurance processes for the duration of the delivery programme.
