Union Pacific Railroad has initiated rail operations serving Roehm’s recently opened petrochemical plant located in Bay City, Texas.

The plant began production earlier this year, focusing on the manufacturing of methyl methacrylate (MMA). MMA is utilized in the production of paints, adhesives, medical supplies, and aircraft glazing materials.

The facility employs technology designed to achieve high output levels while maintaining reduced energy usage and lower wastewater discharge. Roehm’s new plant required slightly more than two years of construction and has resulted in approximately 80 direct jobs for the region.

Roehm operates globally within methacrylate chemistry, supplying industries including automotive, construction, and medical technology. Union Pacific’s rail services to this new plant started in April of this year, providing Roehm with connections to major markets throughout 23 states in the western United States, as well as access to Mexico and Canada.

Union Pacific currently maintains involvement with approximately 400 industrial development projects, having managed more than 600 project leads within the past year.
