Wisla Congress: Rail cargo at crossroads

On Wednesday, the fourteenth edition of the International Railway and Intermodal Congress has started in Wisla. The event is organised by OLTIS Polska and PrvniSignálni, in cooperation with the ProKolej Foundation.
Key topics of the Congress

This year's deliberations focus on dynamic geopolitical changes, energy transformation, EU regulations and the intensifying digitalisation of the railway and intermodal sector. The organisers emphasise the importance of cross-border cooperation, especially between Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Opening debate: "Rail cargo at a crossroads"

During the opening debate, key issues were raised regarding the restructuring of railway companies, changes in the structure of cargo, the decarbonisation of the economy and the implementation of alternative drives. Experts also drew attention to the growing problem of personnel shortages among train drivers and the increasing demands of customers regarding transport efficiency.

  • Mirosław Suchoń – Member of the Polish Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Infrastructure Committee

  • Marita Szustak – President of the Management Board of the Chamber of Land Transport (IGTL)
  • Paweł Pucek – Member of the Management Board of DB CARGO Polska

The participants emphasised the need to modernise infrastructure, harmonise standards and better adapt the sector to environmental challenges.

"Truck or track?"

In the first thematic block, the participants debated the competitiveness and barriers to the development of rail transport, the modernisation of logistics chains, technical and organisational innovations, cost pressures and the recruitment of qualified staff.

  • Lukas Polaczek – Director of the Intermodal Department of DB Cargo Polska

During the panel, the participants discussed key aspects related to the future of rail and intermodal transport, pointing to the need to modernise infrastructure and adapt operational strategies to growing market requirements.

Key thematic blocks

Five main blocks of debates has been planned during the two-day Congress, covering topics related to modern technologies in the construction, maintenance and operation of railway infrastructure, traffic control systems and the digitisation of the industry. Legal, economic and financial issues as well as railway safety are also being discussed.

International Intermodal Congress

The International Intermodal Congress is being held in parallel to the railway conference and will also consist of five thematic blocks. Experts discuss, among other things, the competitiveness of intermodal transport, the modernisation of logistics chains, and the challenges arising from EU regulations and rising operating costs. On the second day of the Intermodal Congress, the focus is on the changing geography of supply chains in Europe and strategies for minimising disruptions in intermodal transport.
