The renewal of high-speed trains is part of Strategy 2030.
"As part of our Strategy 2030, we want to invest around CZK 100 billion in new modern vehicles during this decade. One of the key areas is the renewal of ageing fast trains and their replacement with modern trains. The new units will already be designed for a speed of 200 km/h, the introduction of which is being prepared in several sections. At the same time, however, they must meet the requirements for connections with a large number of stops, which are perhaps only twenty kilometers apart. Passengers often get on and off at these stations and there is a need to keep station stays short and boarding comfortable. That is why we want the new fast trains to be barrier-free," says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ČD.
ČD requires barrier-free electric units for a maximum speed of 200 km/h with a capacity of at least 300 seats with 1st and 2nd class compartments. The trains must offer transport for at least two wheelchairs, several strollers, and a large number of bicycles. The units shall be minimum dual-system for 3 kV DC and 25 kV 50 Hz AC power supply. They shall be supplied with the GSM-R communication system and the European Train Control System (ETCS).
"We require a comfortable solution for long-distance connections, which is standard on our new trains. The interior will be designed as a large space with spacious wheelchair-accessible boarding platforms, which is an advantage for frequent stops on fast train lines. Seats in both classes will be reclining and equipped with tables, 230 V 50 Hz electrical sockets, and USB connectors for powering small passenger electronics," said Jiří Ješeta, member of the ČD Board of Directors and Deputy for Passenger Transport.
České dráhy will conclude a framework agreement with the winner of the tender for the production of up to 60 units with the possibility of supplying spare parts of the exchange system and maintenance of the delivered units in the form of full-service. Delivery of the first units should take place in 2025.
