31 new Mireo Plus B trains, consisting of two cars, will be delivered by Siemens Mobility to Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB).

The Mireo Plus B trains are powered by electricity from the overhead line, which also charges the lithium-ion batteries that enable them to run on non-electrified parts of the line. The trains can travel over 90 kilometres on this battery power. The trains are expected to run from the end of 2024.

The two Länder expect the battery trains to significantly reduce local CO2 emissions. Annual emissions from outside the region should also fall by around 11,500 tonnes. And the switch from diesel to battery trains will also reduce annual diesel consumption by 4.4 million litres.

The new trains will also completely eliminate local CO2 emissions and, depending on the electricity mix, reduce supra-regional annual emissions by around 11,500 tonnes.
