The double-voltage locomotives will be added to the fleet of ten Siemens EuroSprinter locomotives currently owned by the Hungarian passenger rail operator.

From mid-October, MÁV-START, the passenger rail transport company of the MÁV-VOLÁN group, will lease 15 second-hand ES63U2 V7 locomotives equipped with ETCS from the leasing company Akiem.

MÁV-START will use them on domestic InterCity and EuroCity connections to Vienna. The newly leased locomotives can also operate in Germany, Austria, Romania, Croatia and Serbia. The actual agreement with Akiem SAS will be made with MÁV Rail Tours, and MÁV-START will use locomotives based on a framework agreement with MÁV Rail Tours Kft. They will mostly replace the ageing fleet of V43 locomotives.
