The Silver Line vehicles, designed and manufactured by Stadler to connect multiple North Texas cities, will soon be visible on local tracks.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is entering a new phase in the deployment of its new Silver Line as operational testing begins. This phase will allow DART to assess the performance of these vehicles under typical operational conditions. Initially, the Silver Line trains will utilize the same route as the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) between Richardson and Plano.

DART and Trinity Metro have collaborated to ensure the availability of tracks for this phase, which will help train operators and check the functionality of the vehicle systems. During this period, the trains will operate on Sundays, a day when regular TRE services are not in operation, to minimize disruption and ensure a focused testing environment.

The Silver Line vehicles, manufactured by Stadler and assembled in Salt Lake City, are equipped with diesel-electric multiple-unit-powered engines, meeting stringent EPA Tier 4 emission standards. These vehicles, similar to those used by Trinity Metro's TexRail, feature a range of amenities designed for passenger comfort and safety, including multidirectional seats, overhead storage, and internal CCTV cameras.

Further tests are scheduled for the fall between the Knoll Trail Station in Dallas and Terminal B Station at DFW Airport, with the full range of tests concluding by early 2025. DART aims to perform end-to-end testing across the entire Silver Line corridor by the summer of 2025.

The Silver Line is a 26-mile commuter rail that spans seven cities - Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson, and Plano - and crosses three counties: Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant. This rail service is designed to significantly improve mobility and accessibility across the northern portion of the DART service area, with a planned start of revenue service by late 2025 to early 2026.
