With a capacity to handle 150,000 UTIs and accommodate 2,600 freight trains per year, the terminal will boost rail traffic between Valencia and the French border.

AdiAdif, the Port Authority of València (APV), and Grupo Alonso have unveiled plans for a new intermodal terminal in the strategic logistics hub of València-Font de Sant Lluís. Located in the Mediterranean corridor, the terminal will have a capacity of 150,000 intermodal transport units (UTI) and will receive around 2,600 freight trains per year. Equipped with two gantry cranes, the terminal will also provide storage capacity for 2,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year.

Situated within the European Transport Network, València-Font de Sant Lluís forms a crucial node for the interconnection, interoperability, and intermodality of transportation services. The terminal will bolster the flow of standard gauge trains between València and the French border. It will complement the activities of the Port of València and contribute to the development of the València Port Activities Zone (ZAL) and Mercavalencia.

The intermodal terminal will be equipped with 5G coverage as part of Adif's plan to digitalize ten strategic logistics terminals across Spain. The implementation of 5G infrastructure aims to enable advanced logistics services, automate processes and reduce the cost of transporting freight by rail. This technology will facilitate the intelligent management of freight traffic, streamline operations and promote intermodality. It will also contribute to the efficient interconnection of major rail hubs, promoting sustainable and intelligent mobility.

Jorge Alonso, President and CEO of Grupo Alonso, emphasized the aim of creating a flexible, modern, and innovative intermodal terminal that caters to the needs of the 21st century. He expressed the company's commitment to providing a wide range of services for all types of goods within the terminal, including dry and cold warehousing, container and semi-trailer repair workshops, refrigeration facilities, and automated access and exit systems.

With the development of the intermodal terminal, València-Font de Sant Lluís is poised to become a vital link in the national and international freight transport network, facilitating seamless intermodal connectivity and boosting the logistics sector in the region.
