The test run was carried out on a special container platform of Liski Transport Service Centre, a branch of Ukrzaliznytsia, with an additional place for attaching a road semi-trailer.
"We are finalising all the technical aspects and expect to receive orders from cargo owners soon. Container transport has a number of advantages: speed, fuel economy, saving drivers' working time, etc. That is why we see serious prospects for the development of this type of transport," says Tymofiy Murakhovsky, Ukrzaliznytsia's commercial and logistics director.
He predicts that in the future this type of transport will also be carried out as part of intermodal trains.
Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing a new intermodal service that will combine the transport of container trains, container trains and combined trains on the basis of rolling stock from the Liski Transport Service Centre branch in order to develop intermodal transport in Ukraine and integrate container trains into the European system.
The service will be provided to intermodal train operators who enter into an agreement with the company for the provision of rail freight organisation services as part of intermodal trains.
