Polish company Grupa Azoty KOLTAR, a transportation branch of the chemical company Grupa Azoty from Tarnow, is buying its first modern electric locomotive. It will be a six-axle, direct-current Newag DRAGON2 locomotive.
The locomotive will be delivered in the second half of 2024 and will be a modern addition to the existing fleet, consisting of older diesel locomotives (Class SM42, ST44, TEM2 and modernised 6Dg). It will also be the first electric locomotive owned by the company. By now, the operator has only temporarily leased EU07 locomotives.
Grupa Azoty KOLTAR was founded to provide shunting services at first for the industrial sidings of Zaklady Azotowe in Tarnow-Moscice. Over time, it has developed into a freight rail operator, also offering locomotives for lease and repair services.
