The winning project will be announced next summer.

The competition project Nový Hlavák envisages a new concept and transformation of Vrchlický Sady, including the construction of a new tram line, and extensive reconstruction of the Prague Central Station's ticket hall. The project aims to cultivate and renovate the entire area and create significantly better conditions for both residents and passengers.

The terms of the Nový Hlavák competition will be officially announced in the first half of June. Five multi-disciplinary teams will be selected by an expert jury to participate in the competitive dialogue and to develop the design based on a professional methodology approach. The winning proposal will be announced in June next year. The actual start of construction is planned for 2025, with completion expected two years later.

"We have been trying to improve the quality of the public space for a long time so that it is really for the people and not for shame. And the area around the main station needs transformation like salt, after all, it is the gateway to the city. The park, which is unflatteringly nicknamed Sherwood, will get a fresh face, including a new tram line," says Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.

"Over the past decades, it has unfortunately not been possible to rid the country's most important railway station of its reputation as a problematic and unpopular place. We also want to change this situation by building a new tram line that will allow a tram stop to be placed directly in front of the station building, similar to the nearby Masaryk Station. Together with the reconstruction of Vrchlický Sady and the historic and new main station building, a dignified, functional, and representative entrance to the capital will be created in the coming years," says Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for Transport.

Prague Main Railway Station is the largest passenger railway station in the Czech Republic and the most important railway station in Prague. It handles over 70,000 passengers and many regional, national and international trains daily.
