The new route is considered to be a new governmental innovation for sending cargoes via the North-South International Transport Corridor from Formacheva railway station via Akyayla (Turkmenistan) - Incheh Borun (Iran). It provides an opportunity to reduce the delivery time by several days and facilitates the shipment of container trains from the southern Ural railway stations to the port of Bandar Abbas via Sarakhs and Incheh Borun.
"The transit container train with 36 containers from Russia to Saudi Arabia has entered Iran for the first time through Incheh Borun border. After the customs formalities, the said train was sent to Bandar Abbas to leave for Jeddah," announced the president of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI).
In addition, the reduction in tariffs has almost halved the cost of freight transport on the North-South corridor.
This inauguration follows the meeting of Russian and Iranian representatives in August, where they announced the goal of increasing the transit of goods from Russia through Iran's railway network.
They stated that until the Rasht-Astara railway line is put into operation, Iran is ready to increase the transit of Russian goods through the eastern branch of the railway. They also emphasised that priority will be given to Russian goods entering the country from Sarakhs.
