According to the MoU with VTG, intermodal transport between Ukraine and European countries has a number of advantages for customers, including regularity, predictability of time and cost of transport, and allows for integration of rail transport from Ukraine into the European space.
Early in 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia will launch an intermodal service using container, combined and container-carrying trains based on the rolling stock of the Liski Transport Service Centre branch. Ukrzaliznytsia is considering organising this to be transferred to Poland, Romania, Austria and Turkey.
Artem Khachaturyan, a representative of the Permanent Representation of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in the Republic of Lithuania and the Baltic States, claims that the possibility of implementing a technological advance of the Spanish company Tria in Ukraine - bogies with a sliding system for changing from 1435 mm to 1520 mm gauge - has been discussed. Following the negotiations, a team of experts will be set up to assess the likelihood of our EU allies using this technology at 1435 mm and 1520 mm gauge border crossings.
During talks with officials from PKP Cargo, EP Logistics and Slovenian Railways, the Ukrzaliznytsia delegation also discussed joint initiatives to promote rail freight throughout Europe.
Additionally, Ukrzaliznytsia representatives met with the leadership of the French engineering firm Alstom. During their meeting, they talked about a variety of topics, including the introduction of contemporary technical solutions for the integration of rail freight transport into the European system.
